Healthy quintuplets delivered at Dallah Namar Hospital

14 November 2021, Riyadh, KSA – In a very rare case that happens once in every 55 million natural births, a team of more than 20 specialists at Dallah Namar hospital successfully delivered quintuplets - 3 boys and 2 girls. All newborns and their mother are in a stable condition and receiving the necessary medical care. The team included consultants in Ob Gynae, Paediatrics and Anesthesia with a senior nursing staff.

Dr Ayesha Nasir, Head, Ob Gynae Department at Dallah Namar, and fellow of the European Board and College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, who led the team said: “The pregnant woman came to Dallah Namar in her 28th week and was in distress with difficulty in walking due to her enlarged abdomen. Her first ultrasound showed 5 placentas on the anterior and lateral walls.

“The plan was to continue the pregnancy till at least 32 weeks were completed to reduce the risk of fetal mortality and morbidity. Five NICU beds were reserved for the patient throughout her stay. “The whole team of more than 20 specialists participated in an experimental trial run carried out on 23.10.2021 for all staff to be prepared for quintuplets’ birth and positions and duties were assigned accordingly. On the 24th of October, a lower segment caesarean section was performed successfully resulting in the birth of five healthy premature babies with weights ranging between 1.65kg and 2.039kg. All babies were placed in NICU on OGTT feeding and have been improving by the day.”
