Infection Control

The Infection Control Program is a multidisciplinary systematic approach committed to preventing health care associated infections and their related events, to improve patient care, and to minimize infection-related occupational hazards associated with the delivery of health care.

Infection Control Committee (ICC) is a multidisciplinary committee, responsible for overseeing the infection control program (ICP) for the surveillance, prevention and control of infection.
  
Members are appointed by the Chief of Medical Staff and include representation from the following:

  • Infectious Diseases Laboratory
  • Infection Control Unit 
  • Nursing Administration
  • Medicine 
  • Neonatology Nursing 
  • Surgery 
  • Pharmacy
  • Obstetrics / Gynaecology 
  • Central Sterile & Supply Department
  • Paediatrics 
  • Outpatient Clinics
  • Employee Health 
  • Facilities
  • QI & Risk Management Unit 
  • Support Services

The ICC has the authority to institute any appropriate control measures when there is a danger to patients or staff.

 

SERVICES PROVIDED

The following are services provided by the infection control department:

  • Identify potentially infectious patients or staff who may transmit disease to others.
  • Reduce the risk of disease transmission and ensure maximal protection for patients, visitors, and health care workers against infection.
  • Recommend risk reduction practices by integrating infection control principles into all standards of practice.
  • Monitor infections within the hospital
  • Provide safe environment for patients, visitors and employees.
  • To achieve and maintain compliance with Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) Standards for Infection Control. 
  • Provide feedback to physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Advises the administration regarding the matters related to infection control.
  • Sets and institutes policies and procedures of infection control in the hospital according to current international standards.

 

 TRAINING AND EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

  • Provides all Dallah Hospital Staff mandatory orientation to infection control, on hire , yearly and on important issues like Influenza A H1N1.
  • Provides continuous education program on all subjects.
  • Recommend risk reduction practices by integrating infection control principles into all standards of practice.
  • Monitor infections within the hospital.
  • Provide safe environment for patients, visitors and employees.
  • To achieve and maintain compliance with Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) Standards for Infection Control.
