The responsibilities of the Clinical Laboratory Pathologists include:
  • Overall operation and administration of the laboratory
  • Educating & managing personnel
  • Assuring compliance with applicable regulations
  • Being accessible to the laboratory for consultations
  • Ensuring quality laboratory services for all aspects of test performance
  • Providing a safe environment for personnel to work in

Laboratory Services
The purpose of the Clinical Laboratory is to provide patients and their physicians with accurate and efficient laboratory testing through:
  • Ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of quality control methods appropriate to each department
  • Phlebotomy procedures that include assessment of the patient’s physical and emotional status before initiating a procedure and before selecting appropriate equipment
  • Continuous evaluation and revision of current laboratory procedures; and the introduction of new procedures as they become available and adaptable to the needs of the Hospital
  • Continuing education programs for laboratory personnel to update their knowledge of laboratory theory and practice
  • Encouraging laboratory personnel to hold memberships in professional organizations, i.e. MT, ASMT, ASCP, CAP and others

Laboratory Objectives
The Laboratory Department’s goal is to serve its clients (patients, referring doctors and other related staff) to the best standards attainable (i.e. quality service).

Main Objectives
  • To efficiently and accurately perform the tests ordered in order to achieve near 100% accuracy and precision in all laboratory results
  • Provision of consultation and support to physicians in order to achieve definitive diagnosis and appropriate management of patients
  • To minimize all the technical errors encountered by laboratory personnel and improve their skills and knowledge in solving such problems
  • To minimize or shorten the turn–around–time of the release and distribution of results
  • To prepare adequate stock of blood components with high quality standards that meet the requirements of modernized transfusion services
  • To eliminate typographical and human errors that lead to the mislabeling of samples or requesting wrong tests
  • To apply the latest technology in the field of Laboratory Medicine by upgrading the automated equipment to its latest version and to apply new methodological techniques
